I’m rounding out the Marrakech experience with my stay at Kasbah Du Toubkal. Located approximately two hours from Marrakech (via car through a scenic drive), the Kasbah Du Toubkal is one of National Geographic’s unique lodges of the world. I stayed at the Kasbah for two nights (but I wish I had an extra night to climb the summit of Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa), and everything was a beautiful and cultural experience. Staying at the Kasbah Du Toubkal is a fully immersive, local village experience that I highly recommend. Looking up into the sky at night felt like I could see the entire universe because there were no other lights around. Every star and planet glimmered in the vast sky. I went on a four hour hike every day with a local guide, which is a must if you’re around. It was a great adventure to explore the terrain and see the mountains and vastness. Space is a minimum in Hong Kong, so I always feel my best when I’m in open areas. My hikes were a great way to refresh and surround myself with nature.

Accommodations at the Kasbah were authentic and comfortable. The staff were very playful and friendly, and I loved interacting with them every day, asking questions and learning about life in the area. The views are stunning from every area of the property. Rooms are standard and outfitted with custom walnut furniture. It’s located on a hilltop so it’s relatively secluded, making for a relaxing and peaceful experience. The surrounding gardens and terraces on the property offer beautiful views of the mountains all around, which I found myself staring at and getting lost in the beauty of it all. They offer plenty of family rooms, so this can be an ideal spot for family vacations and large gatherings.

I spent the days on my own, exploring the local village. It was nice to see the locals harvesting apples, helping each other build homes, with neighboring kids running around and playing with each other. My guide told me that local culture was very hospitable and friendly. If you got lost or hungry in the village or needed help in the mountains, you could knock on any door of any home to ask for help. The locals would feed you, provide warmth, and help you find your way. They’re very willing to help without any expectation of anything in return, and I got the full sense of that from exploring the town and talking to staff at the Kasbah. If you’re looking for something that’s full of adventure and beauty, make sure you add the Kasbah Du Toubkal to your list!
