Summer season has recently started in Europe (FINALLY! ), and lots of Europeans are fleeing to their favourite nearby islands for a mini weekend or a long-awaited vacation. Earlier this month, I went to Palma de Mallorca for a mini getaway. As one of the biggest of the Balearic Islands in Spain, it offers a variety of activities for all sorts of people- family, singles, couples, small children etc. If you want to party, there are lots of options, if you want a romantic getaway, there are plenty of beautiful spots, if you want a quite detox or relaxing vacation, there are multiple locations. I wanted a bit a both- a little sightseeing, a little wander around the old town, but mostly a quiet few days to just chill by the sea and the pool.

Very known since the 1950’s, Hospes Maricel & Spa Hotel is one of the most prestigious hotels on the island. Located literally on the sea, it is only 20 mins drive away from the airport, and about 10 mins drive away from Palma city, the capital of the island. I was very impressed by the magnificent views of the Mediterranean and a very elegant design: its singular combination of majestic architecture, inspired in the sober style of the 17th and 18th Century, and the architectural avant-garde style based in the natural colors and the noble materials used for its construction. It is grand, welcoming and not intimidating at all. So are the staff- not only they all spoke flawless English, they are so helpful, efficient and friendly. We asked for restaurant recommendations in the city center, not only they helped with the booking,  they came back with options when the initial one is full. We were very impressed by how flexible and quick they are, literally anything you need to ask, they are there to help and offer a solution.

When I said it’s literally on the sea, the hotel has a little ladder that gives you access to the clear water sea, you can even swim across to the nearby small beach if you are a keen swimmer.

The Hotel has two buildings: The Palace with 29 comfortable and luminous rooms with views to the mountains and views to the sea, and the NATURA building with 22 rooms decorated with native stones and an exclusive decoration where the Winter Spa is located. The above photo is the view from our room in the Palace building, and it’s absolutely beautiful. On the other side we face the Mediterranean, and at night, the sea and the sky blends into one, all you need to do was to open the window, stick your head out and look up, and you see all the constellations in the clear sky, or a phenomenal lightning in our case during one night when the thunderstorm hit.

Enjoying breakfast by the sea with this view…such blissful times! Breakfast was also known as “the world’s best breakfast”- people do go there just for the breakfast. With an impressive view by the sea, the seabreeze and the warm Mediterranean sun, with a huge selection of tapas/pintxos buffet and a la carte menu, I can understand why it is the world’s best breakfast. It surely does set the tone of the day right!

On the other side of the hotel is the winter spa, on the day with the thunderstorm, we fully utilized the spa- the Hammam, the jacuzzi, the resting area and had a relaxing massage.

If you are planning a holiday in Palma de Mallorca, I surely recommend Hospes Maricel Hotel & Spa, its a perfect base for whatever you are looking for during the holiday.
