Over the years Brooklyn has changed so much and became the vibrant, cool hipster place in New York. We had the absolute pleasure to stay at the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge for a night, and fell in love with it. Stands right beside the East River and 5 blocks west of the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade, the one-year-old hotel sets in a 10-story building. All 194 guest rooms (including 28 suites and 1 master Riverhouse Suite) with floor to ceiling windows, open plan and nature-inspired design with living green is something you don’t find often in the market.

The lobby of 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge opens to a dramatic 25-foot green wall, featuring steel grating covered in hand-placed plants and creeping vines that will evolve over time, created by landscape architecture firm, Harrison Green. A two-story industrial spiral staircase is punctuated by a sculpture of obsidian rock boulders wrapped in hand-dyed rope by Rachel Weiss.

Committed to sustainability and preserving the environment, the hotel was built under LEED® guidelines and underscores some efforts such as featuring a 54 percent ratio of regional and reclaimed materials, including original heart pine beams from the former Domino Sugar Factory, walnut from the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and pine flooring from the Old Crow Distillery in Kentuck. The hotel operates a rain-water reclamation system that will reduce storm water runoff into neighboring water streams by more than 50 percent prior to the site development. The water collected will irrigate the park during summer months. (Roughly 5,000 cubic feet of water is projected to come from the hotel), and the property uses 100 percent wind power energy. You can also find a lot of recycling details throughout the hotel : the paper hangers, recycled paper boxes in the room, and recycle bins for guests. The sliding floor-to-ceiling windows not only allow guests to enjoy the breath-taking view of either Brooklyn Bridge or the Statue of Liberty, it also allows ample of natural daylight and wind to enter the room, which also compliments the eco-friendly green hotel rationale.

The hotel rooftop space is a 4,000-square-foot urban retreat with specatular views of the East River, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and the Manhattan skyline. Brooklyn’s newest day life hotspot features a 3-foot lounge pool, full-service bar, fire pits and seating spaces made from reclaimed railroad ties where up to 350 guests can relax and sip craft cocktails. There is also a bar/ lounge- Brooklyn Heights Social Club on the 10th floor, again with unrivaled views quickly became New York’s most coveted hideaway, it is believed to be the place where Gigi Hadid threw her 23rd birthday party.

Food and drinks is never an issue in the hotel. Not only they offer 24hour in-room dining, there are many options in the hotel. Located on the ground level, a picnic-fare Neighbors café offers local seasonal and fresh items. The menu includes fresh fruit smoothies and super food salads. Onto the other side is the restaurant The Osprey, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch with farm-to-table cuisine and the finest Brooklyn purveyors. Its also very cool just to go for a cocktail.  We had the best fries in the restaurant which we highly recommend. If you fancy something lighter, the lobby lounge is also a very cozy place for a cocktail or champagne.

Conveniently located at Pier 1, the seafront view of Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan is unbeatable. It is a pleasant walk or run around the hotel property with loads of green spaces. It is also only a little below 20 mins walk to Brooklyn Bridge, or if you want to go uptown or across to Wall Street, the ferry pier is right next to the hotel, which takes you little less than 10mins by ferry. Not to mention the hippy cool Williamsburg is just 20mins drive away.

Who would resist a delightful breakfast in the room view such a wonderful view? Instead of having breakfast at the Osprey, we decided to order the night before and have it in the room. It feels just like home. Waking up to that view and the comfortable sofa plus bed setting is a divine way to start the day.

Remaining true to 1 Hotels founder Barry Sternlicht whose core philosophy was  “The world around us is beautiful, and we want to keep it that way.” The property cultivates the best of eco-conscious design, sustainable architecture, cause-oriented partnerships, and unrivaled service. We surely experienced all of the above during our stay. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, design was one-of-a-kind , and food was lovely. The best part? The view and location, being so central but exclusive to have that quietness and peacefulness whenever you’re around or in the hotel.
