Summer in Europe, more northern parts in particular are often short and unpredictable. In London and UK as a whole, we are not as blessed with days with warm summer sun as many of the neighbouring countries, and this is a strong reason why so many Brits flee to places in the South like Portugal, Spain, Greece and Italy to catch some sun. (Think how we in Hong Kong loves flying to the nearby countries like Thailand, Bali, Malaysia etc for short vacations, and some proper sunshine and beach time.)

Among the very popular summer holiday choices are Ibiza, Mykonos, Capri and Algarve. Catching the tail of summer, 2 weeks ago I went to Algarve, and spent few days at the newly opened Blanco Beach Club sits right on the miles-long sandy beach Praia de Rocha, Portimão. Located at the south-western coast of Portugal, Portimäo is famous for its calm water despite being on Atlantic coastline, what used to be fishing village now turned into a tourism paradise.

Blanco Beach Club, as in the name, is a club sitting on the beach in white. The simple and clean colour palette and design is as refreshing as the water. Believing that the Algarve coast will be the next hotspot for summer jet setters, and hopes to bring a new level of day life to Portugal, Blanco Beach Club is the the brainchild of investor and music producer Maximillian White. The latest entertainment and experience driven venue in Portimão opened in July 2017. Maximillian, a very well known name among the music industry, works closely the likes of Rascals, Jay Sean, Cheryl Cole, Alesha Dixon and Shontelle, and producing some of the greatest hits including One Dance by Drake ft Wizkid and Kyla. Talents such as French Montana, Tyga, Ty Dolla Sign, Rick Ross, Torey Lanez, Redfoo, Fatman Scoop are amongst the star-studded line-up for the summer.

The design of Blanco Beach Club was inspired by organic European living, nature and the panoramic ocean view, design details include reclaimed wood and natural fabrics. Feature pieces include private jacuzzis, fire pits, and custom designed cabanas. With multiple bespoke bars, VIP cabanas with private Jacuzzis and a 20 meter pool, the spacious club has the most beautiful backdrop of blue sky Portimão.

Portugal, a place where great variety of delicious food is easily accessible and affordable, I am a little surprised by the quality of food served in the club, especially sushi and sashimi. Clearly the 5-star fusion restaurant – Blanco Beach By Hikidashi – a collaboration with Lisbon’s newest Japanese hotspot is working its magic. Casual alfresco dining, fresh seafood and Atlantic coastline chargrills, combined with a lively atmosphere makes an afternoon even more enjoyable.

My visit was during the week in late August, so I was not entirely surprised the beach club being less packed than I expected. The busier hours usually hit after dinner when sun sets, when the club becomes the town’s hottest open-air party club. French Montana was the star of the night- witnessing the club turned into a packed venue, fans literally followed him all over the place just trying to get a hand shake or a photo, lingering around for as long as they were allowed to, just to see their idol for one more minute.

The endless Paria de Rocha is worth exploring while visiting Blanco Beach Club. The beach club opens at 1pm everyday until 3am, so if you make it there early, you can spend the entire morning on the beach before chilling in the club.

A little 15 mins drive across to the other side, is a beautiful little town called Ferragudo. Old cobble stoned alleys meandering up and down the little hill guides you to some of the breath-taking views of the town and coast. You can also spend a good few hours there exploring and having dinner, where they serve fresh and inexpensive quality sea food.

The only thing is, with Algarve, public transportation is not the most convenient. Having a car will come very handy, or booking a taxi. Either way, they won’t cost you a lot and it saves you a lot of time feeling frustrated on trying to hail a cab. If you are a VIP of the Blanco Beach Club, don’t hesitate to ask for the driver services they provide, they have the best driver in town.
