Gucci Cruise 2017 took place this year in London, creative director Alessandro Michele’s favorite city, inside the hallowed walls of the Westminster Abbey. The scalloped stone arches and hallways that made up the Cloisters provided the perfect dramatic backdrop and, literally, tunnel into Michele’s delicious ecstasy of a vision. Mixed in with his usual happy pills, cat ladies, jungle animals, kaleidoscopic rainbows, love, light and all of that, there was a darker, grounding tinge of the punk and Victoriana. And of course the collection wouldn’t have been complete without the appearance of a Union Jack or two!
The day continued with a private tour of the Westminster Abbey, where my favorite part was its Poet’s Corner. Then a quick change and bite to eat and it was off to our last stop, a private gentleman’s club turned Gucci townhouse discotheque. Annie Lennox was the surprise guest of the night, singing her hits to a gorgeously decked out audience. I drank my weight in champagne before we trickled down to the basement, where we all danced until we could dance more.
All my senses are fully quenched for a while to come… Thank you, Gucci, for yet another amazing trip!
