100 years in a bottle – a royal lifestyle

We live in a world where everything is instant and immediate. The urge of immediacy sometimes makes us forget about the art of patience and the depth of craftsmanship and skills. Earlier I was introduced to the world of Louis XIII at their pop-up boutique in Harrods (only until 25th April), I was so fascinated to learn about the history behind this bottle of Cognac. Personally I am not a fan of cognac, nor do I know a lot about it. That is why learning about the heritage of Louis XIII with a fresh eye makes is so much more fascinating. I also had the pleasure to speak to Ludovic du Plessis, the Global Executive Director of LOUIS ...

Le Roch Hotel and Spa- Hidden Gem in the heart of Paris

As classy and posh as Paris goes, there is also very cool and chic side of it. Le Roch Hotel & Spa is one fine example. Part of the Design Hotel group, tucked behind the small Rue St Roch, you barely notice this boutique hotel in the heart of the city.  The hotel is really very hidden, but the giveaway is there are always 2 very well-dressed men standing at the door to meet and greet you. Redesigned by architect Vincent Bastie, taking a fading public building and transformed it into a neighborhood classic ; Le Roch’s 37 guestrooms and suites feature unique décor by French designer Sarah Lavoine. I particularly like the court...

Drink your way through time

Do you know what’s so special about this view? It is the iconic London night view, but also the place I was standing on taking this photo, was where Fred Astaire danced. And as Gene Kelly would later say, dance history begins with Fred Astaire. This very rooftop on The Savoy, London, marks the beginning of a very interesting new cocktail bar menu that has recently been launched. The Savoy in London has long been one of the most loved luxury hotels through time. Celebrities, actors, actresses etc had been regular guests, and when they do, there is always some urban myths or stories be told. Researching on the history of the hotel...

Fairmont Peace Hotel- A time capsule of the glorious Shanghai days

The alluring view of the Bund in Shanghai is full of substances, the richness in history and beauty of different architecture all add up to a rather unique skyline. Going back to a century ago, it actually has not changed a significant lot. Among the architecture on the Bund, is the famous Fairmont Peace Hotel (和平飯店), which opened its door on August 1, 1929 as the Cathay Hotel by Sir Victor Sassoon. British by birth and educated at Harrow School and later at Trinity College in Cambridge, Sir Victor went to Bombay and then Shanghai to learn about the family’s multi-faceted businesses, inheriting the helm of the company in 19...

Make it a special Christmas

If you are still doing a last-minute Christmas trip planning, here is one experience for you. As Rotterdam has become more and more popular among travellers, one of the most iconic hotels that I had stayed there twice, nHow hotel, has created something really special. In my previous posts I had mentioned how much I love about the hotel’s panorama view, the location and the creativity they put into every setting and design. This Christmas, they have created something special for the annual auction for the Red Cross. The auction is a very big thing in the Netherlands. It is being organized by one of Hollands most famous radio ...
