Luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Copenhagen- Hotel Danmark

We all know how cool the Scandinavians are, and how the world had fell in love with everything they do. Not only the Danes were happiest people in the world (Norwegians had overtaken now), the best Nordic cuisines, handful of michelin restaurants (NOMA and 108 anyone?) they also have lots of really cool designs, both in clothing and interior in particular. So when I knew that the latest addition to Brøchner Hotels – Hotel Danmark was opening, even as a regular in Copenhagen myself, I couldn’t resist but made a stay there during their opening week in May. (Brøchner Hotels currently runs 4 boutique hotels in Copenhagen with a t...

Le Roch Hotel and Spa- Hidden Gem in the heart of Paris

As classy and posh as Paris goes, there is also very cool and chic side of it. Le Roch Hotel & Spa is one fine example. Part of the Design Hotel group, tucked behind the small Rue St Roch, you barely notice this boutique hotel in the heart of the city.  The hotel is really very hidden, but the giveaway is there are always 2 very well-dressed men standing at the door to meet and greet you. Redesigned by architect Vincent Bastie, taking a fading public building and transformed it into a neighborhood classic ; Le Roch’s 37 guestrooms and suites feature unique décor by French designer Sarah Lavoine. I particularly like the court...

Secret Garden in the heart of Shanghai

Ok, maybe it’s not so secret anymore. The Puli Hotel and Spa , opened in 2009, is still one of my favourite hotels in Shanghai. This is my second time staying at the hotel, and I still manage to get lost around the area and could not find the entrance. Tucked in the middle of Jing’An district, it is actually as well-connected as it can get, the hotel is a little oasis amongst the buzzing city. There are 193 rooms and 36 suites, a restaurant, a bar , a Health Club that equipped with state of the art gymnasium, sauna, steam room, experiential showers, jacuzzi pool, 25-metre lap infinity pool as well as the first Anantara Spa i...

The ” Stockholm Syndrome” – Nobis Hotel

Ever heard of the term ” Stockholm syndrome”? Now here’s a little story that traces back to the origin of the term.  In 1973 Stockholm,  bank robbers held four employees of the Kreditbanken hostage in the bank’s vault, during the six days of their captivity, the hostages gained sympathy for and even loyalty to their captors. This unusual development in hostage situations has been referred to as the ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ ever since. The Nobis Hotel buildings are the site of a dramatic attempted bank heist and the origins of a psychological phenomenon dubbed ‘Stockholm Syndrome.’ and the bank vault is now part of ACNE st...

The cool Miss Clara

Stockholm has always been a place known for its cool design, the Scandi coolness is so captivating. When I visited Stockholm earlier, I stayed at one of the boutique hotels in the heart of the city, Miss Clara by Nobis. Sveavägen, where the hotel is located, is Stockholm’s most cosmopolitan boulevard, cutting straight through the heart of the city from north to south. This part of Sveavägen, north of Kungsgatan avenue, is one of the most expansive focal points in the evolution of a new and more dynamically attractive Stockholm City district. Part of Nobis Group, the 92-room hotel was originally an Ateneum girls’ school buildi...
